Obituary for Harlan Whitcomb

Belchertown -Harlan Whitcomb , 93, passed away on March 1, 2018. Born in Amherst on May 29, 1924, he was the son of Bertram and Alice (Matthews) Whitcomb. Harlan proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, where he received a Purple Heart. He grew up in Amherst and moved to Ludlow before residing in Belchertown since 1958. For over 33 years, Harlan worked at Monsanto. In his leisure, he enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. In 2013, Harlan was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn (Powers). He is survived by his children, Duane Whitcomb and wife Carolyn of Belchertown, Stephen Whitcomb and Laura of TN, and Janet Whitcomb and Doug also of TN. Harlan also leaves 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Harlan was the last of 10 children. Visitation will be Thursday, March 8th from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home with a service to begin at 11:30 a.m.. Burial will follow in N.Amherst Cemetery.
